The Heritage University Master of Arts in Medical Sciences (MAMS) program is a one-year, 36-credit master’s degree with classes held at both Heritage University and Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (www.pnwu.edu) in Yakima, WA. Each semester, students take PNWU medical school classes alongside first-year med students in addition to Heritage University classes in Toppenish.
Students who successfully complete the MAMS program are guaranteed an admission interview at PNWU the following year, but are not guaranteed admission into the medical school. The overall success rate of the program is 83% - more than 4 out of every 5 students have been admitted into the professional school of their choice. In addition to PNWU, our alumni have gone on to other professional programs after graduation including physician assistant, podiatry, optometry and others.
If you’re interested in learning more about PNWU and Osteopathic Medicine in general, I recommend you contact my counterpart at PNWU, Mike Riggin. You can reach him at (509) 249-7740 or email@example.com. If you decide to come visit Heritage, you can also set up a visit to PNWU. Mike gives a great tour.
When you’re ready to continue the application process, as soon as possible you should:
- Apply online to Heritage University at www.heritage.edu/apply
- Pay a non-refundable $95 application fee using the online application system; and,
- Complete your 2016-2017 FAFSA.
To complete your application, you must submit:
- Three letters of reference from professionals with knowledge of your ability to successfully complete a rigorous graduate program;
- A personal statement (maximum 4,500 characters including spaces and punctuation);
- A PDF of your test scores from any professional program admissions test you have completed (e.g. MCAT, DAT, GRE); and,
- Official transcripts from all undergraduate and other coursework to the Heritage University Office of Admissions.
Optionally, you may choose to submit up to three additional letters (for a total of six) and a resume or CV.
If you have completed an AACOMAS application, a copy of that is an easy way to submit many of your MAMS application requirements. Log into the AACOMAS site, navigate to the area that shows the med schools you have submitted the application to, look in the “Status” area and click on one of the schools. This will generate a PDF of your application including a cover sheet with calculated GPAs, as well as your personal statement, resume etc. Your AACOMAS application PDF will count as your personal statement, resume/CV, and MCAT scores. You must still submit official transcripts from your undergraduate and other coursework.
We prefer that your recommendations and personal statement be submitted using the online application system. However, documents can also be submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org (preferred) or mailed to the following address. If your recommendations are submitted via email you must have the letters sent directly to us from the references or use a secure document transmittal service such as Interfolio.

Some universities are able to transmit official transcripts electronically using eSCRIP-SAFE, Parchment, the National Student Clearinghouse, or similar services. If you have this option, please take advantage of it. Have the documents sent to email@example.com.
A number of current MAMS students have offered to be available to new applicants to the program to answer questions and assist you with your application. If you’re interested in speaking with a current MAMS student you can use the Facebook group above or contact me and I will get you connected.
We will be holding a number of MAMS campus visit dates starting in February. More information and dates will follow soon.
