Math Bridge Program

Note

Summer 2023 information will be posted soon

Heritage University Summer 2022 Mathematics Bridge Program

The mathematics program at Heritage University (HU) is offering the opportunity to improve your math placement for the Fall 2022 semester. Participating in the Math Summer Bridge Program will allow you to refresh your math skills and potentially move your math placement up to a college-level math course. This will help you to reserve your financial aid for other courses and will decrease the time it takes you to reach the college-level math course required for your intended major.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

When you join the Math Summer Bridge Program, you will sign on to an online learning platform which allows you to learn and practice math skills at your own pace. You will be able to learn most of the math content independently, however Math Bridge tutors who work in the Academic Skills Center (ASC) are available online and in person to help you.

Bridge participants who successfully complete one or more Math Bridge Program content modules will be able to take the next appropriate course in the HU mathematics sequence during the Fall 2022 semester.

The table below shows what courses you can register for after completing a course content module during the Summer 2022 Math Bridge Program.

IMPORTANT DATES

Program registration and start dates: June 13-July 29, 2022

The Math Summer Bridge Program has a rolling enrollment. This means that you can apply to join anytime between June 13 and July 29. The sooner you start, the more likely you will be able to complete at least one content module during the summer program.

Last day to complete a content module: August 14, 2022

If you are part way through a content module on the last day, you will not be able to complete it before Fall classes start, however your work will have better prepared you for your Fall course.

HOW DO I JOIN?

The registration period is now closed.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

You are eligible to participate in the Summer 2022 Math Bridge Program if:

  1. You are a new student who placed in and are correctly registered for Math 94, Math 95, or Math 96 OR
  1. You are a returning student who is correctly registered for either Math 94, Math 95, or Math 96.

ATTENDANCE

To complete one content module plan you must spend anywhere from 25 hours to 50 hours actively working in the learning platform. This estimate is based on past Bridge participants, but each student is unique, and the time needed to complete a module depends on several factors including where you start and your learning rate.

To ensure that you progress you will need to follow these guidelines:

  • You should spend at least 8 to 10 hours per week actively working in the ALEKS online learning platform. This is a minimum recommendation; we encourage you to exceed the minimum recommendations!
  • You should attend the ASC tutoring support hours on campus or online while you work in ALEKS. Tutoring is FREE to participating students, and our tutors have years of experience and are trained to help you progress.
  • You need reliable internet access, a computer or laptop, and a quiet and comfortable place to work. If you do not have these things, come to the HU ASC. The ASC opens at 9am; you can make yourself at home! We have a food pantry on campus or the café if you need to grab lunch or snack.

Remember, we want you to succeed! If your attendance drops, or you aren’t making progress, we will reach out to you and your advisor to make adjustments that make sense for you.

LOCATION HOURS & TUTORING SUPPORT

Tutoring support is available Monday – Friday, 12:30pm to 9pm, except for two holidays: Friday, June 10 (Yakama Nation Treaty Day Observance) and Monday, July 4 (Independence Day).

Tutors are located in the ASC in the Kathleen Ross Center (next door to the library) from 12:30pm to 5:00pm band can be accessed virtually from 12:30pm to 9pm. If you are unable to be on campus, you can join the ASC Virtual space via a Zoom link we will provide once you sign up for the Math Bridge Program.

PROGRAM COSTS

Heritage University will cover the costs for the first 6-weeks of ALEKS and Bridge Program. Once you sign up in ALEKS, your 6-week access will commence; it is critical that you begin working through the content modules immediately after signing up. Consider delaying your start date if you have other time commitments that would prevent you from using ALEKS.

If necessary, adding additional time beyond the 6-weeks will be determined based on the recommendation of your advisor and your usage of the ALEKS learning platform.
