High School Equivalency Program – HEP Alliance

Heritage University’s High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is funded by the Office of Migrant Education. The HEP Alliance Program is a five-year grant that serves 100 students annually. The program provides high quality education to participants who are eligible and enrolled into the program. The high academics and preparedness helps every student enrolled pass the rigor of the four official exams to secure their High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).

The primary goal of the program is to serve migrant and seasonal farm workers with a High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation and support services. Every student enrolled in the program will receive 80 hours of direct instruction (English or Spanish) within each of the four content areas of Language Arts, Social Studies, Sciences and Mathematics. All courses are aligned with Common Core State Standards and STEM curriculum. Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Applicant must be 16 years of age or older (applicant under 19 years of age must obtain a release from their school district).
  • Lack a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Applicant or immediate family members living in the same household that has worked a minimum of 75 days during the past 24 months as a migrant or seasonal farm worker.
  • Be assessed at or above a 9th grade level of education.
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License/Identification Card, Tribal Identification or a Valid Passport.
