 Applying to the Practical Nursing Program

The Practical Nursing Program at Heritage University has admission requirements above those necessary for general admission to the university. Applicants to the program must apply and be accepted to the university and complete the TEAS assessment test for basic skills in reading, writing, mathematics and science.  In addition to the program prerequisites, the students must meet all of the legal requirements of the institutions or agencies where clinicals will occur. This includes a verified credentials national background check upon admission and a Washington State Patrol criminal background check each semester. Health insurance and individual student malpractice insurance are required, as are health record documentation of required immunizations and medical test certifications.

Applying to the Practical Nursing Program
Submit all Practical Nursing program application materials to: Heritage University, Arts and Sciences Center, Practical Nursing Program, 3240 Fort Road, Toppenish, WA 98948.

  • Complete and submit the Practical Nursing Program Application.
  • Submit a 1-3 page personal mission statement describing why you want to be a nurse, include life experiences, personal characteristics, work experience, etc.
  • Two (2) personal recommendations using the nursing program recommendation form 
  • Unofficial transcripts from any other college, university or junior college you have attended

Candidate Evaluation
Successful applicants will be selected by an application review committee consisting of Heritage faculty and staff.  Applicants will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Completion of the pre-requisites courses
  • The content of the personal mission statement
  • The content of the two personal recommendations
  • Grade point average and the absence of any continuing academic problems
  • Acceptable Washington State Patrol background check
  • TEAS Testing
  • Candidate interview
