The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation sponsors the Mellon Minority Undergraduate Fellowship Program at Heritage. The program offers financial support to upper division students for a wide variety of activities.  The program goal is to encourage students to continue their education past baccalaureate level studies to Ph.D. granting graduate school studies.  Students receive a summer stipend of $3000 to pursue enrichment undergraduate research and community service projects.  They also receive $1600 in academic scholarships over the fall/spring semesters.

Each year, students are selected for Mellon fellowships on a competitive basis.  A call for nominees is issued each spring semester to the department chairs, EAGLES, ASB, and the presidents of student organizations.  Any student may apply.  The criteria for acceptance into to the program is upper division standing (60 or more 100 and above course credits), a GPA of 3.0 or better, statement of intent to pursue a doctoral degree and two favorable reference letters.  Approximately 5 fellows are selected every year.  Awards are for two years.
