The College of Arts and Sciences is composed of the Business Administration and Accounting, English and Humanities, Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Nursing, Sciences, Social Science, and Social Work Programs.  These programs are designed to prepare students for careers in professions that meet the needs of a modern multicultural society.  Understanding of basic principles and practical applications are emphasized in all the College's programs.  Each program is structured to include certification studies, Associate of Arts degrees, and Baccalaureate degrees to meet the spectrum of educational needs of our students.  Students taking courses requiring prerequisites must achieve a grade of at least C- to progress to the next course.

Each department in the College of Arts and Sciences performs an assessment of academic achievement prior to graduation.  These assessments may include an interview, review of a portfolio containing the students work and/or review of performance capstone courses.  The purpose of these terminal assessments is to provide a tangible basis for assurance that learning goals have been achieved and to assess the effectiveness of the academic programs offered by the College.

The College of Arts and Sciences supports the conduct of studies to address issues of concern to the community it serves.  These studies are carried out through undergraduate research projects.  This undergraduate research provides valuable services to the community and practical experience for students.

The College also supports subject matter courses for education majors seeking a variety of teaching certificates and endorsements.  It provides practicum experience in K-12 schools throughout the area.  It also supports education majors providing teaching experience in community outreach programs.
