The purposes of the Nursing Education Programs are as follows:
1. To meet the shortage of diverse Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Registered Nurses (RN) in the area.
2. To provide a bridge from LPN to Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) for students and encourage students to transition from an ADN to Bachelors of Nursing Degree (BSN) program.
3. To increase the diversity in the nursing profession to meet the cultural needs of the community.
4. To provide an opportunity for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) working at local health care agencies to become RNs.
Nursing education is directed toward the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable students to acquire nursing behaviors necessary for the practice of nursing. Both programs at Heritage will prepare the student to perform as an entry-level LPN or RN by offering learning experiences through clinical practice and classroom theory. Graduates of the programs are eligible to take the state board examinations leading to licensure.
The programs have educational objectives to prepare the nurse graduate to be responsible and accountable for practice based on and limited to the scope of her/his education. Both, the Associate Degree Nurse and Practical Nurse will demonstrate competence, and nursing experience within the practice environment while functioning as an effective member of the health care team.
The Nursing Education Department is developing an evaluation system to track our graduates employment and to stay in contact with our Alumni. We will be giving the students that graduate an informational form to fill out for future contact and also a postcard to send in when they do get that first job.
