About the History Program
At Heritage, there is more to history than dates and events.
The History Department helps students explore the people, attitudes, and actions that shaped us into who we are today, deepening our understanding of people and societies different from our own. This multicultural approach to the human past situates the history of the Pacific Northwest within the context of global forces that shape contemporary life.
In studying this human tapestry, the History Department builds collaborate classroom environments that help students develop multiple interpretive tools to make sense of the past. Consequently, students build cognitive skills that allow them to understand and solve complex problems. They learn to make critical decisions with an understanding of how a single event can impact the collective community.
To put those skills into practice, all students are given the opportunity to participate in at least one intensive research experience, and many students present research papers across the United States.
