The College of Arts and Sciences is composed of the following departments: Business Administration and Accounting, English and Humanities, Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Nursing, Sciences, Social Science, and Social Work. Each department offers a variety of programs which are designed to prepare student for careers in professions that meet the needs of a modern multicultural society. An understanding of basic principles and practical applications is emphasized in all the college's programs.
The College of Arts and Sciences supports the conduct of studies to address issues of concern to the community it serves. These studies are carried out through undergraduate research projects. This undergraduate research provides valuable services to the community and practical experience for students.
Each department in the College of Arts and Sciences performs an assessment of academic achievement prior to graduation. These assessments may include an interview, review of a portfolio containing the student's work, and/or review of performance capstone courses. The purpose of these terminal assessments are to provide a tangible basis for assurance that learning goals have been achieved and to assess the effectiveness of the academic programs offered by the college.
