Salvador Lopez, Research Award Recipient
Senior Salvador Lopez was one of a handful of award recipients recognized for their work at the national SACNAS conference in Seattle this fall. SACNAS is a society of professionals and academics that works to increase the number of Hispanic/Chicano and Native American scientists. Lopez received the category award in physiology/ pathology for his research presentation on using adenosine to treat epilepsy.
Lopez’s project was based on his research study completed at Oregon Health and Science University last summer. His work was part of an ongoing study on the effect of higher levels of the naturally occurring neuromodulator adenosine on the effectiveness of the drug Diazepam used to treat epilepsy. For the conference, Lopez was one of more than 1,700 students to submit presentation proposals. A little more than half of the proposals were accepted, with only one award given in each category.
