Heritage University Finishes in Top Four at National Enactus Competition
Toppenish, WA — Heritage University students finished in 3rd place in a competition against 225 colleges and universities from across the country in the national Enactus USA Expo being held in Cincinnati, Ohio. Advancing into the final four on Thursday morning, Heritage students competed in the final round Thursday afternoon against Roberts Wesleyan College (Rochester, NY), Belmont University (Nashville, TN), and Texas State University - San Marcos.
This year’s presentation team included: Haydee Navarro, Adrianna Villafan, Francisco Ramirez, Sagrario Leon, Guadalupe Jimenez-Rios, Daisy Santiago, Denis Arce and Cruz Orozco. The students presented three specific case studies from the group’s dozens of 2013-2014 efforts that demonstrated: how they used their skills to create opportunities for at-risk middle school students; train low-income individuals at home and abroad to become successful entrepreneurs; and “Pantry of Hope,” an ongoing program which provides food to the less fortunate in the local community during the holidays.
“We couldn’t be more proud of our students. Placing in the top three for the fourth time since 2004 is proof that we continue to have a tremendously talented group of students who develop outstanding projects,” said Heritage University President, Dr. John Bassett.
Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. Heritage University Enactus has won ten consecutive regional championships; and since first reaching the national level in 2004, Heritage’s team has been in the top 20 eight times consecutively, and have advanced to the final four, four times.
“Our Enactus students faced tough competition from some of the best schools in the country, and performed brilliantly in every round of the competition. Third place out of more than 200 competitors nationwide is an outstanding accomplishment,” said Enactus Advisor and Heritage University Professor Len Black.
