Students earn full-need schoalrships to Heritage University through Act Six
Toppenish, WA — A dozen students from across Central Washington are receiving full-tuition scholarships to Heritage University through the Act Six Leadership and Scholarship Initiative. The twelve were selected through a rigorous process from a pool of 224 applicants.
Act Six is a Northwest program that works with local ministries and faith and social justice-based colleges to develop young leaders to be agents of change in their home communities. The program identifies high school seniors and recent graduates of promise, provides leadership and college success training, and scholarships to the partnering college. This is the third year that Heritage has been a part of the initiative. This year’s cadre brings the total of Heritage University Act Six scholars to 30.
The selected students are:

Karina Borges is a senior at AC Davis High School. She is a member of the MEChA club, student migrant leadership and the College Success Foundation Achievers program. She plans on studying psychology at Heritage.

Crisantos Chavez is a senior at Mabton High School. He plays soccer and has been awarded Most Valuable Player and the Coaches Award. He plans on studying physics.

Luis Gomez is the senior class president at Dwight D Eisenhower High School and is active in his church. He plans on majoring in business administration.

Alexandra Hays is a member of Future Farmers of American (FFA), plays sports and is on the student council at Sunnyside High School. She is currently a senior and plans on majoring in elementary education.

Elizabeth Lara graduated from Eisenhower High School in 2012 and is enrolled at Yakima Valley Community College where she is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and president of the research club. She plans on majoring in biology and wants to become a pediatrician.

Dahlton Madison is a senior at West Valley High School. He is a peer tutor for Special Olympics and a member of the Key Club. He plans on majoring in nursing.

Clemente Navarro mentors children in his community encouraging them to stay active and be healthy. He is a senior at Toppenish High School who plans on majoring in criminal justice.

Raegen Sharp is a senior at Granger High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society. She is a community volunteer at the local food bank. Raegen plans on majoring in psychology. |

Desiree Theisen is a senior at Prosser Falls High School and is enrolled in the Tri-Tech Skills Center Pre-nursing program. She plans on majoring in nursing.

Jade Tillequots is the historian and vice president of the White Swan High School FFA and is active in Sacred Road Ministries. She plans on majoring in biology and wants to become a dentist.

Aide Torres is a senior at Eisenhower High School, president of the Migrant Leadership Program and a member of the College Success Foundation Achievers program. She plans on majoring in education.

Glenda Torres is a member of the volleyball team and in Teens Against Alcohol at West Valley High School. She is a senior who plans on studying nursing at Heritage. |

In addition to the Yakima Valley scholars, Act Six named another 53 new scholars from throughout the Pacific Northwest. These students will attend one of seven other partner universities, including George Fox University, Gonzaga University, Northwest University, Pacific Lutheran University, Trinity Lutheran College, Warner Pacific College, and Whitworth University. Since its founding in 2002, Act Six has provided full-need scholarships to 315 scholars, 90 percent of whom have either graduated or are still enrolled.
