Heritage welcomes its new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Toppenish, Wash. — After 19 years in the California State University system, Dr. Curt Guaglianone is taking the lead of academics at Heritage University. Dr. Guaglianone starts his new position as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs on July 1.
“Heritage is a university with a powerful mission of leadership and service,” he said. “I look forward to being part of this dynamic learning community that is dedicated to changing the lives of students and improving the quality of life in the community,” he said.
Prior to his appointment at Heritage University, Guaglianone was a member of the Provost Office at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB). He was first an associate professor at CSU Stanislaus became professor and associate dean at Fresno State, and then was hired as Dean of the School of Education at CSUB. All three campuses are federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institutions in California.
During his tenure, Guaglianone developed many community partnerships to support student success and faculty achievement. As dean, he led the way to national and state accreditation for the School of Education, established a unit assessment system to document student learning outcomes and implemented electronic portfolios as the emerging technology for program candidates. In his role in the Office of the Provost, he was the lead author for CSUB and grant administrator on a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics related grant from the US Department of Education - Teacher Quality Programs, which spans 36,000 square miles of Central California, and involves three CSU campuses, twelve Pre-K12 school districts and 18 schools designated as highly diverse and underperforming. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Doctor of Education Program at CSUB through a six-year transitional partnership with Fresno State. He also served as the university’s accreditation liaison officer and ushered the campus through a successful accreditation that lead to a nine-year regional accreditation.
Guaglianone’s appointment stemmed from a nationwide search to fill the position left open after the previous provost, Dr. Sneh Veena announced her retirement last year. Dr. Jim Borst, former dean of Heritage University’s College of Arts and Sciences, served as interim provost during the 2011/12 academic year. He will assist Guaglianone with his transition before retiring this summer.
