Federal Judge to lecture at Heritage University
Toppenish, Wash.— The Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington State is speaking as a guest lecturer at Heritage University. Chief Judge Rosanna Malouf Peterson will talk about her experiences and the federal justice system at Heritage on November 6, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in Smith Family Hall on the Toppenish Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Peterson is the first woman to serve as a federal judge for the Eastern District of Washington. President Barack Obama appointed her in January 2010. A year later, she assumed the role of Chief Judge. Prior to her appointment, Peterson taught federal jurisdiction, evidence and trial advocacy courses at Gonzaga University School of Law and served as the director of its externship program. Her legal background includes work at several private law firms focusing on federal and state criminal defense, employment and education law. She has served as president of the Washington Women Lawyers Bar Association and as president of the Federal Bar Association of Eastern Washington.
